Beaches

City of Norfolk Beaches - The City of Norfolk Department of Neighborhood and Leisure Services has four beach parks which they operate. Lifeguards are provided from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day. Picnic shelters are available at most parks on a first come, first serve basis. Rest room facilities are also available at each park. Accessways along the 7.5 miles of beachfront are provided.

City of Virginia Beach Beaches - Virginia Beach oceanfront is an ideal place for outdoor sports. The recently refurbished oceanfront boardwalk is nearly 3 miles long and features newly landscaped pedestrian beach entrances.

Bridges

Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel - Sea Gull Island is located on the southernmost of the Bridge-Tunnel's four manmade islands, 3-1/2 miles from Virginia Beach. This island provides the traveling public an opportunity to stop, stretch their legs, grab a bite to eat, cast a line, birdwatch, or just take in the natural beauty and sounds of the Chesapeake Bay. An interpretive display of the construction of the Bridge-Tunnel is located just outside the Restaurant/Gift Shop.  VA, Phone: (757) 331-2960

Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel - "Hampton Roads" is the historic name for the five-mile wide, last ten miles or so of the James River before it empties into Chesapeake Bay. Chesapeake Bay is an ocean estuary, the lower end of which is about 15 miles wide, and Hampton Roads is about 15 miles from the Atlantic Ocean. A line from Old Point Comfort to the west end of Willoughby Spit, comes close to demarking the point where Hampton Roads becomes Chesapeake Bay; and the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel also crosses close to that line.
